Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the River Tyne in Gateshead in the UK. Gateshead Millennium Bridge open / tilted so that boats up to 25 meters tall can pass under, it takes about 4.5 minutes to open the bridge. In 1996 it initiated a competition to built a bridge over the River Tyne. It was Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineers Gifford who won the competition. Construction began in 1999 and in 2002 the bridge was officially opened. The bridge has won several design awards.
